EYFS FAQ Form
Please add any questions about your child's start at school. These will go to Miss Shee, EYFS Leader, who will be able to post the response on the website for everyone to read.
Will parents be able to come into school with their children in September to help them settle?
Given the current guidance, parents/carers will not be permitted to enter the school building without a pre-arranged appointment. With our experienced EYFS team, our collective wealth of knowledge allows us to deal with situations efficiently. Children entering the school building on their own sets a precedent from day one and encourages your child to develop their independence. If you feel your child will have problems settling in, please contact the school office or disclose this information to your child’s class teacher at your home visit.
How many children will be in each class?
Currently, the total intake is 39 children. This is split between two classes of 20 and 19. This can change during the year, as children can leave or join Somersham at any point. Although there are two classes within EYFS, please be aware that children will be mixing as a whole cohort throughout the day.
Will my child’s Tapestry account be transferred from his/her preschool setting?
Your child’s Tapestry account from their preschool setting will not be transferred, as we currently do not have the capacity to take them onto our own school account. Therefore, we recommend that you contact your child’s preschool for a copy of their learning journal before starting Somersham. Once your child has started in September, we will be setting your child up with a new account. Further details about this will be discussed at your child’s home visit and details forwarded to you subsequently.
Can I find out from the school who will be in my child’s class in September?
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to send out a class list to all parents/carers. However, each child will be informed of their assigned class next week and please be assured that children in both classes will be able to mix regularly throughout the day.
How do you know about my child’s specific needs and interests?
We have spoken to the preschools, where possible, to give us an understanding of your child’s background, interests and abilities. We will also be carrying out socially distanced home visits in September (further details will be sent out in due course) to gain further information from yourselves and your child in a more relaxed atmosphere. This will allow us to understand your child’s needs and formulate an educational plan.
